Highland Community Care Forum (HCCF), has, over the past 20 years built up a portfolio of services for carers including young carers, people with mental health problems, people with learning and physical disabilities and older people. HCCF adopts a community development approach and works in remote, rural and urban localities across the Highland area. FAQ's

  • How do I know if I am a Carer?

You are a carer if you look after a relative, friend or neighbour who can't manage without your support

  • Am I entitled to Carers Allowance?

If you care for someone for more than 35 hours a week, earn less than £95 per week and are not in receipt of state pension then you are entitled to claim carers allowance.

  • Is there anyone I can talk to?

Sometimes it can feel as though you're the only one out there and it can be helpful to talk to someone about your caring situation.  There are various support organisations for carers in Highland who can offer advice, information, practical and emotional support to carers.  They may also be able to put you in touch with other carers who will understand your situation.  Call us on the Connecting Carers Information Line Tel: 01463 723561.

  • Can Carers get Direct Payments?

Carers can sometimes get Direct Payments - money to arrange their own carers' services. You need to talk to your Adult Care Services worker about it when you have your carer's assessment. People with disabilities can also get Direct Payments to arrange their own services. Further details about this are in a factsheet called Direct Payments. Contact us on 01463 723561 to get an info pack

  • What is a Carers Plan?

Carers have a legal right to an assessment of their needs if they provide a substantial amount of care on a regular basis. A Carers Assessment or Carers Plan is an opportunity to discuss your caring situation and the sort of help that you need with caring. You can also discuss any help that would maintain your own health and balance caring with other aspects of your life, like work and family. Contact us to arrange for a Carers Plan to be done.Tel: 01463 723561

  • Where can I get information about Respite?
