Highland
Connections
This
year our Annual Conference revisits a familiar theme - Connecting People.
After all that is what HCCF is about:
- Connecting
people to each other.
- Connecting
people to support and services.
- Connecting
people to their communities.
- Connecting
people to local decision makers and to the Parliament.

We know
being connected at different levels and in different ways is an important
factor if peoples' quality of life is to improve substantially.
Last
year we published Highland Conversations. People talked:
- About
connecting through the Internet and having 'an on-line family'.
- About
being very visible in their local community, but in a negative way
that led to stigma and bullying - relegating them to the margins
of their communities.
- About
connecting to their MSPs and feeling that this had given them a
voice.
These
conversations left us in no doubt that for many the reality was that
they felt unconnected, hence our return to this theme.
This
year, speakers and workshop leaders from Scotland and England will
bring a mix of perspectives and experience to the Conference, ranging
from the Highland dimension with the launch of HCCF's 'Community Care
Connections' video to the Scandinavian experience of 'Village Parliaments'.
The
discussion and debate at 'Highland Connections 2003' will help
shape the work of HCCF for the coming year. Let's hope you can join
us.
