Lochaber
Community Car Scheme
Volunteer Drivers
The
Scheme and Its Volunteers
The
Lochaber Car Scheme is a flexible transport solution and volunteer
time given over to the service can be very variable. Just one
or two hours a week will help a person get out and about and be
prat of their community.
The
Driver's Themselves
Drivers are asked to be reliable and punctual and will be aware
of any special needs of passengers. They pick up passengers as
directed by the telephonist and in many cases will wait and return
them home again. Should the visit be for a lengthy period of time,
arrangements will be made for a later pick up.
Training
There is a programme of training for drivers which includes Helping
Your Passengers. Thus, many of our volunteer drivers have training
in disability awareness and first aid.
Getting
Involved
If you want to be involved, you will be asked for the names of
two referees. If these are acceptable, volunteers are registered
as part of Lochaber Community Care Forum and give a brief overview
of:
- What
is expected of a volunteer
- How
the scheme is run
- Safety
and insurance cover
- Training
schemes
- Helping
passengers
