Skye & Lochalsh Community Care Forum

HOW WE WORK

The Forum works with service users and carers to promote good practice, develop appropriate activities and raise issues of concern. This is done by listening, collecting and passing on information, providing support and appropriate advocacy/advice for individuals. Service users, carers and young carers play an active part in the initial discussion, development, monitoring and evaluation of Forum activities.

WHAT AREA WE COVER

Skye and Lochalsh covers an area of 270 656 hectares including the Isles of Skye and Raasay and the extensive mainland area of Lochalsh. The population of around 12,000 represents approximately 5% of the Highland population. The area’s administrative centre is the town of Portree in the north of Skye. Portree is over one hours drive from the furthest settlement of Arnisdale in the south of Lochalsh and is more than 100 miles from the main Highland service centre of Inverness. This geographical separation contributes to of isolation and brings significant difficulties in enabling local people access to distant services.

WHO WE INVOLVE

The Forum’s main focus is the involvement of service users and carers in using their knowledge and expertise to raise awareness and develop ideas and projects. The Forum would not be able to achieve its aims without the time and commitment given by service users, carers, young carers, Lunch Clubs organisers and members.
