Highland Community Care Forum's March 2003 Meeting

'Have We Got News For You'
Getting Our Message Across for the Next
Parliamentary and Local Government Elections

Friday 7th March 2003
10.30am to 3.30pm

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club Stadium,
East Longman, Inverness

To be effective, HCCF needs to seek new ways of getting the user/carer message across to as wide an audience as possible. There is an extra edge to this in 2003 with Parliamentary and Local Government elections coming up.

This meeting gives us the opportunity to put together our election messages direct from users, carers and their representatives.

We know that the people who belong to the HCCF Network have a huge amount of knowledge about what it takes for people with disabilities, older people and carers to be able to live better lives. The challenge is to be able to convey these messages in a way that makes the politicians sit up and take notice. On the 7th we are fortunate to have two experienced old hands to guide us through:

* Norman MacAskill, a past Local Scottish Labour Party Organiser and now the Rural Policy Manager for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, and

* Graham Blount from the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office.

Norman MacAskill was unable to attend so he was replaced on the day by Phillippa Bonella, Policy Co-ordination Manager for the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). Philippa was responsible for developing Scotland's Voluntary Sector Manifesto for the Scottish Parliament and leads SCVO's policy campaigns

The HCCF Election Checklist will be sent to all Parliamentary and Local Government candidates. Go to Election Checklist web page.

We hope you will be able to attend.
