WHO CAN JOIN HUG?
  • Membership of HUG is open to anyone with, or who has experienced, a mental health problem.

  • People in agreement with our aims and carers of people with mental health problems are welcome to our meetings.

  • People who work with people with mental health problems, but are not themselves users, are welcome but are usually requested to make a prior appointment with the user group to attend a meeting.

Please note that HUG does not represent the views of people with dementia, as we believe that other specialist organisations are in a better position to do this.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

You can either call us directly or complete the form on this web site – it really is as easy as that!

Most branches have a contact person who is willing to meet new members. If you would like, we can try to arrange for you to meet the contact.

If there is no branch in your area you are still very welcome to join, as travel expenses will be paid to enable you to attend meetings. You will also receive reports of meetings and in time we may be able to set up a branch in your area.

People who would like to become more involved can complete a questionnaire that will be sent once we have your contact details. The type of things you could get more involved in are:

  • Attending local and national conferences and events as a HUG representative
  • Be elected onto the HUG Roundtable (steering group)
  • Become involved in media work or mental health awareness trainin

EXPENSES

We do not want you to be out of pocket to attend meetings or events. We have an expenses form that you can fill in on the day if you have had to travel more than 5 miles, and we will send you the amount due you.
