In the Autumn of 2005 the Highland Carers Project has put together a portrait exhibition of photographs of carers with Fin Macrae, the highly regarded Highland photographer. This exhibition was born out of the desire to mark and celebrate the enormous contribution that carers make to our communities. There are sixteen portraits of carers who live and care in different parts of the Highlands. |
| The
exhibition launched at the Highland Community Care
Forum AGM in Inshes Church in mid-December 2005. After that it began
a tour of the Highlands. You can find out where on our Tours page
and you can visit our Gallery page and view the portraits there.
The exhibition features photographs of carers of all ages and all situations from all over Highland and celebrates, in a novel and unusual way, their individual methods of dealing with their caring responsibilities. These are not pictures of people pushing wheelchairs or handing out pills it is an exhibition which challenges stereotypes and encapsulates the personality of individuals who are carers, but are also mothers, brothers, sisters and friends. The photographs were taken by photographer Fin Macrae, who lives and works in the Highlands and who has a particular connection with the place and the people. You can find out more about Fin at his website at http://www.finmacrae.com/ |

| The exhibition was opened by Maureen Macmillan MSP in Strathpeffer on Carers Rights Day, and was then shown in the Eastgate Shopping Centre and Portree Library. The exhibition toured the Highland region until March 06, and concluded its tour at The Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh during Carers Week (June 06). We are very grateful for the support this project received from Hi-Arts, Healthways Ross & Cromarty and Tore Art Gallery. | |
