HCCF
exerts influence through its Local Forums and other groups, and its
programme of meetings and conferences. By bringing together groups and
community organisations, and keeping its network in contact with those
who need to understand local needs and wants, HCCF has a reputation
for finding innovative ways to give users and carers an effective voice.
Local
Forums

invitation to play a direct role in the implementation of Joint Future

development and growth of Access Panels in Ross & Cromarty, Sutherland,
Caithness and Skye to improve accessibility for all people with disabilities

Parent Carers Support Group established summer play scheme in Portree
-
Lochaber CCF commissioned by Social Work Services to undertake scoping
study of service needs in Invergarry

video produced in North and West Sutherland to promote the local home
based respite scheme
HUG

for the new Mental Health Act: met with 2 MSPs as part of consultation;
gave evidence to the Health and Community Care Committee during the
debate; Graham Morgan seconded to the Scottish Executive for six months
to create a snap-shot of current mental health services in Scotland
from the perspective of users and carers

members contributed views on a wide cross-section of issues: housing,
benefits, crisis/out of hours services, Care Programme Approach, places
of safety, hospital services, Mental Health Act, alternative therapies

played a key role in the Review of the Highland Carers Strategy and
in the Strategy Steering Group

Young Carers' Education Policy written by Project Worker now being
implemented across Highland

carers involved in drawing up HCCF Election Checklist with particular
emphasis on young carers assessment, housing and advocacy

supported carers in Learning Disability Local Implementation Groups

represented on the Operations Group for the resettlement of New Craigs

secured place on Scottish Executive Joint Future Information & Advisory
Group, contributed to user/carer involvement section of Joint Future
Highland Community Care Partnership Agreement, debated Local Forums'
role in local Joint Future Teams; contributed to Scottish Executive
thinking on how to measure user/carer satisfaction with Single Shared
Assessment; worked with statutory agencies to develop a Highland Direct
Payments Scheme; put views forward in Highland and nationally on user,
carer, patient and public involvement.
